HARD FEELINGS (Duluth, MN)
We are a band from Duluth MN. We have a 7" on Thrillhouse Records, and a new 12" LP called "Swell" on Starcleaner / Plan-It-X / Lost Cat Records.

BIG CRUX
BIG CRUX started around 2009 as a band heavily inspired by off-the-beaten-path hardcore groups like BIG BOYS, MINUTEMEN (duh), and THE DICKS. With a healthy love for old soul, R&B, funk, rock n roll and bouncy punk bands like UNDERTONES, X, PLUGZ (even WIRE and MISSION OF BURMA), Some type of hard-hard bop or vacant-stare-chicken-walk boogie was begot. Playing punk spots to confused onlookers.

CULT OF YOUTH (NYC)
Sean Ragon has been active in the DIY punk, industrial and experimental music communities on the east coast for over 15 years while also running a record store and label in Brooklyn (Heaven Street and Blind Prophet Records, respectively). He has been recording under the moniker of Cult of Youth for the last five years. Cult of Youth eventually expanded into a four piece, which landed them on tours with Zola Jesus, Cold Cave and Iceage. They caused quite a stir; not only among more indie-centric press outlets such as Pitchfork and Stereogum, but with underground publications such as Heathen Harvest and Special Interests magazine as well.

For their third full-length for Sacred Bones, Cult of Youth have delved deeper into their style of punk-influenced psychedelic neofolk and created a self- described “post-industrial Pet Sounds.” Using acoustic and electronic instruments, found sounds and an extensive tribal rhythm section, Cult of Youth have put it all out on the table and left us with their magnum opus.

The band has returned with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and an all-new lineup. Sean Ragon, once the project’s lone member, is now flanked by Jasper McGandy on bass and Christian Kount on electric guitar (both of whom were members of seminal Sacred Bones band The Hunt). Cory Flannigan on drums and Paige Flash on cello complete the five-piece. The end result is Cult of Youth as they were always meant to sound.

The contributions of the new members are evident on every track on Final Days, from the anthemic “Empty Faction” to the gorgeous album closer “Roses.” Final Days is the culmination of everything Cult of Youth has been moving towards the past seven years — post-industrial, post-punk, and post-enlightenment.

Addendum: Real human bones were used on this recording and a portion of the lyrics were written in jail.

BLACKWITCH PUDDING
Paying Homage to the rotten filth from which they were born, Blackwitch Pudding is actually a band of three Wizards. Legend has it, they were raised from a stagnant used puddle of ergot, left by the mysterious Blackwitch, hundreds of years ago. Trained in the dark arts of doom and witchery, these Wizards wander the cosmos in search of nothing, for their path is a simple one.... the riffs must be heavy and the smoke must be heavier.

DASWASUP TOMORROW AT NARWHAL

THE YEAR OF THE GIG GIGS ON WITH ANOTHER TITE GIG

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 7

IAN (Boston/LA)
"When IAN releases a new tape of their legendary sad-girl anthems, there is a whole lot to be happy about. Thanks to the magic of BUFU Records, the band’s quiet bedroom pop is taken out of the bedroom and moved into the garage. Equipped with the full band, the songs are filled out with fuzzier, grungier sound. By embracing a bit more noisiness, IAN creates determined energy and the songs deliver the emotions behind them with confidence. Yet they are more than just garage-set rock, and the tracks utilize little tricks to give them unique dreamy qualities . There are songs with erratic rhythms and jangly bridges. Some have whirly distortion and feedback. With deliberately struck chords, the melancholy mood is set even on the most upbeat tracks.

Then there is the unmistakable voice of singer Jillian Medford, which is a force that stands all on its own. Intertwined with the music and often accented with echoing effects, there is a special synergy. On tracks like “If You’re Cryin”, it meets the instruments as they crash together at the perfect moments. On others like “I Don’t Care” it takes center stage, reaching a high squeak or soaring along earnestly. With the distinct tone of her voice, no emotions could possibly get lost in the mix. The lyrics are just as poignant, using simple poem-like rhymes to express complicated emotions. The songs stare you down with wide eyes, sad and sweet all at once, and it would be impossible not to listen."
